Honorable Mention pigeon-trification Frank Faust it should be no surprise that it might take some time for we have lived here awhile now and locating the café latte set has proven difficult only the over-crowded shopping malls cater for such needs while quiet streets appear uninitiated so no it should not be a great surprise but there is hope all through this morning we have watched the patient industry of two diamond-necked pigeons at the task of home building sitting quietly on the fence at first light they seemed a pair of fat puffballs but with the day they have emerged to gather precisely shaped twigs and grasses placed just so to settle down leaves until a platform is achieved no sharp protuberances busy busy and with the day now well advanced and home made comfortable these young residents of an unsophisticated suburbia must confront a test to be approached obliquely as though still nonchalantly seeking twigs although there is no evidence of continued purpose in this regard to be examined with a suspicious eye although appearances seem inviting enough to be sampled sparingly at first with a rapid extension of neck and dart of beak for the achievement of an initial taste a patisserie has opened at the base of the tree in which the new nest has been established and french cuisine provided so while other birds may have bread crumbs in the aged feeder this domicile is going up-market and while it has taken a little time habit-formation has begun croissant flakes anyone? |
